Smaller audio components usually are sold with extremely small external power supplies (aka Wall Warts) that provide the minimum and in some cases, below minimum requirement of power to operate the main device effectively. Why this is done is pure economics. Big power supplies don't have the same marketing punch as fancy specs or faceplates.
Aftermarket power supplies are becoming more and more popular as it is a simple and effective upgrade that can provide excellent results.
As usual, Gilbert was ahead of the pack and has been designing powerful power supplies for a long while. The GBC-S was designed for upgrading a streamer (A Moon MiND to be specific) though if you know the voltage requirement and the pin configuration of a component these power supplies can be used on many external power supply devices.
Why more power? Simply, the average 'wall wart' is equivalent to putting a lawnmower engine in a mid sized car. The GBC-S is a proper engine capable of delivering all the power without voltage variation. See Gilbert's post here:

This DEMO GBC-S is a 12V Centre+ Shell - output that will replace the power supply for a Moon MiND and many other 12v devices as the DC tip is very common. If you have a 12v device, I can easily verify compatibility.
