Semi Retirement Announcement aka 'Gilbert gets a life'

Post by Raven » Fri Feb 03, 2017 2:18 pm

Well....now that the cat is out of the bag and Gilbert has uttered the 'semi retired' line, I just found out how many folks read this forum daily since my email just exploded.

Gilbert has decided that working 12 hour days, 7 days a week is not good for long term happiness.

Semi retired = Longer lead times

Semi retired does NOT = No support for new or older Blue Circle gear

Rest assured he isn't closing the doors anytime soon, just hanging a 'Gone for a long lunch" sign on a frequent basis. He's warned me that a long lunch could last up to 3 months at a time so be patient!

Ladies and Gentlemen

Relax, I am semi-retired I am not dead. Please stop sending "hate mails" and worry to death about your orders with us or whether BC products will have support in the future. :) :D

Put on your sense of humor cap before continue. Otherwise, you are going to worry more. Because I am going to bang out what is in my head and push the submit button. I am not going to re-read, nor will edit.

First, the title of the thread is correct. I am finally getting a life like most of you have since your 20's. I didn't take a single day off in my 20's. Not a single vacation day until I am around 36 or 37. I have been in semi-retirement mode since I was 42 (5 years ago) but just didn't tell anyone. I took vacations, I stop working 16 hours a day, I stop worry about a lot of thing. I still get up in the middle of the night when new ideas struck. I still work 7 days a week when I am not on vacation. Work is part of the fun and is part of my life. That will not stop. Until I die. And I am not planning to die anytime soon. I am 47 now and I more physically fit than I was at 25. Mentally, I am crazier (or sicker) than ever. If that concern some people, it's too bad. I don't try to change anyone and I expect nobody will try to change me.

Raven's said I am going to take long lunch up to 3 months. He has misunderstood what I meant. I was telling him I would take up to 3 months off a year in total. That mean a week here and 2 weeks there. All together add up to 3 months a year.

Creating something is what drive me out of the bed every morning. Because of that, are you still worry about no new products? It's the opposite. Semi-retire mean I am going to spend more time thinking about new stuff whether it's a brand new product or upgrades to the old stuff. It's the creative process that I really enjoy.

Product support, don't worry. I have plans on support all of the BC products even when I officially announce my total retirement. As long as I can hold a soldering iron, you can find me to fix your gears or even upgrade your gears.

So whey am I telling people I am semi-retired or fully retired? Because I want to say I am going to tell people what is in my mind more. I will call out what I see without hesitation. Which means, when I see an S-hold, I call the person the way it is. No horse puckie nices. Just the truth. There are no lacking of S-holds out there. Been burned by some in the past too. I don't need to bad mouth them, all I need to do is to tell the truth and show evidents. Just like this post. I am telling you the way it is. Truths hurt, too bad.

In a slightly nicer way to say it, I am going to express more about myself. If you have been my flickr page, you may have already seen what I been doing. If not, here are a few links.

Some people may think why would an audio designer do all these painting. Hey, it's the creating process that I drive for. It may be my next career along with designing Blue Circle gears. I have already done a few painting jobs for money. Some of you may already notices my designs are often different than the audio trend. BC gears sounds are usually not fashionable but think about why you enjoy it so much. Because we don't have a marketing department to control what I design. I design what I would personally enjoy. I do what I have in my head. I put the human factor more into the gear and a lot of other companies does. That's the creative part which a lot of corporation cannot afford to have. Because they need to make sure they can push a certain number of boxes out the door. We don't and yet, we have lot of works for the past 15 years and still more work are coming.

Do I side tracked already. Heck, I don't care anymore. Because I am semi-retired.

     :D :D :D :D :D

The bottom line is stop worry, I am here and still working as long as I am capable. But don't expect to see me at too many trade show anymore. That part I am going to skip. Too many three faces lying bastards at those trade shows whom really sickening me. Listen to their talk is enough to make me puke. I still have to go to Axpona this year because I have promised Walt at TLP Audio I will be there with him.

Gilbert, you the man. It seems to me that you are true to yourself and therefore able to be honest with others. I don't know what else anyone would want. Well, I do know (cf. American politics), but prefer not to think about it. The jackets and shoes are genius.

I will be more true and start telling people where to go. I am sick of dealing with S-holds. They are everywhere. So why are they everywhere. Here is my view point.

Definition of S-holds like everything else are depends on one point of view. One person S-Hold is another person hero. Apply to both sides and all sides. When you call someone a retard, other will see you as retard as well. Don't think you are always right, because enough people will think you are wrong. There is always both side of the story and often more sides to it.

When we think we know everything to know to make a decision and take side, we usually don't know enough and make the wrong decision.

The point I am making is we don't need more love. We need to be more considerate. Try to think from the others point of view which most of us are not capable of. None of us is right until we understand why other think differently than we do. Why they want and need different thing than we do. Until then, we are all S-Holds. Some I can add the F word in front of a lot of them.

 :) :D
