NSL Headphone amp?

Post by Chowder_head » Tue Jan 12, 2016 8:33 pm

Have you given any thought to this, Gilbert? Could it be designed to meet the current needs of many of the flagship cans and wide variations in impedances for ore traditional cans, such as K7xx series and HD650?[/u]

Further to this idea, Gilbert. Please give the Hifiman HE-6 some consideration too.

We have already been making custom headphone amp for HE6 based on the NSL. Since it demands 5watt into 50 ohms, it require a slight higher rail voltage than the NSL can put out.

The NSL itself can drive be used as a 28 watt into 8 ohms amplifier to drive any headphone without adapter.

But that shouldn't be a problem with conventional headphones. My HD650s work fine with a 0.8W (16126) Darling amplifier.

.

I haven't had much sonic luck with flagship headphones - Audeze or HD or HE, nor the SS amps that are suggested to drive them - so I returned to my trusty HD650 and K7Xxx. Maybe my brain isn't big enough to absorb the elecro-shock treatment these modern systems deliver into my ears. While I am still primarily an SET fan, I do really like Bob's SS system and I respect his characterization of the NSL very much.

My present set up is my PC to a PS Audio PWD Mk2 via USB to my BC BmPH via XLR and then to my HE-6's via speaker taps. Utterly blissful. Only downside is the amount of real estate required. Somewhere between nine o'clock and ten is pretty loud. The amp and DAC are plugged into a PLC Thingee.

Not sure why I'm posting. Just cuz
