BJH is right, unless your tubes are beginning to fail, you likely won't notice any change because the degradation is so gradual. In my case, the tubes would exhibit an obvious problem, ie. noise or flashing. I originally left the 208s on all the time, but the GLs would seldom last more than 4 months...

Let me tell you, I was starting to sweat after 150hrs because the sound just wasn't working. I wrote Gilbert and said that the 208 wasn't even close to the NSL. Luckily things began to change soon after. I have taken leaps of faith with many audio decisions, I rely on opinions of people who I trust....

Mark,
You have a great system here. Your room is definitely large enough to support the CLX and I'm sure they would work great with your modded BC26. The 10' ceilings will allow them to breathe. They would need to be further out than where your paradigms currently sit however.

IM,

I'm not looking to move away from my MPS-5 anytime soon - it's pretty special as well, especially with DSD.

I do want to try the 60xx at some point however.

Hey Mark, Thanks for compliment - the project was both fun and frustrating. I really enjoy the CLXes, they take transparency and dynamics to another level compared to their older stats. I use a pair of Velodyne DD-18, you can vaguely see them in the pics if you look carefully to the outside and slig...

Photos of the new room. Carpet replaced with maple floor and area rug, ceiling raised to 9' with soffit bass traps, Vicoustic diffusors on ceiling, improved venting for better air circulation, Low E2 windows to increase comfort. Sound is more open and spacious with better energy. Bass is more linear...

Hmmm, you're right, I guess I never did talk about the before and after with the 208. Because I had the NSL here, it was never so much about the difference between 208 (with tubes) and 208-NST as much as how the 208-NST compared to the NSL. Also, because of the significant changes to my room acousti...

DD/IM The tunes sound great in hell and there's lots of room - warm and cozy. Biamping is not possible with the CLX, but I do run subs through their hi-level inputs, so the sub does take on the signature of the amp. Suppose it would have been interesting to hook them up through their lo-le...

My NSL & BC208-NST Blog

There have been significant changes made to my audio room. It began with a renovation project to increase the ceiling height to 9' with integrated soffit bass traps. Even with a collection of GIK and ASC traps in the original configuration, the soffit traps have increased bass linearity in this room...

Walt,
What are you trying to treat for Penny?

I never realized they had this treatment for pets. It would have been ideal for our last 2 dogs.

NSL/NSP & BC703

Had a lot of fun visiting with Esoxhntr (George - Entracte Audio) and Gilbert in Markham and had a chance to see some of the latest creations. I saw the impressive setup with the NSL/NSP combo driving a pair of ATC speakers - the sound was wonderful and certainly worthy of all the compliments that i...

Nice review! Always enjoy reading Mickelson's writing. Gil But doesn't drink beer so he has a lot of sober time to solder. Then again, not sure what inhaling 2 weeks of fumes does to the brain. :) I looked at that Canuck thread and I think it is only one guy who is questioning all the manual labour ...

I took delivery of two new 24x filters and one 18x filter over 2 weeks ago. For the first week, they sat in the basement on a timer cycling them on/off every hour to accelerate the break-in period. Last week, the new pipes were moved into the audio room and I could tell that they were doing somethin...

I think it's the silicone flame that made you want more. :) Don't feel bad, you are not the first nor the only person whom has that effect. I hope I never see flames :). After 2 weeks, the fumes have subsided enough that my kids no longer accuse me of eating salt & vinegar chips. Sounds like ...
