Here it is finally! The whole set-up rests on a poured concrete floor with premium underlay and Berber carpeting.

Amplifier: BC22 with MkII + POT upgrade
Transport: Denon S-10
DAC: Custom designed Blue Circle SBD with volume controls
Speakers: Newform Research
Speaker Cables: BC 92
Power cords: BC 68, BC 62
Digital cable: Stereovox XV2
Analog cables: Cardas Golden Hexlink XLR
Racks: Salamander
Line conditioner: Blue Circle Power Line Pillow
Acoustics: Sonex and Corning in-wall sound barrier. Diamond racing cones
Electrical: Dedicated 30amp service. Double 10ga. insulated and armoured electrical cable to a Hubbell duplex.
Cable elevators: DYI cut glass and neoprene rubber.
Future addition: BC 6000

You've got a concrete floor! You lucky devil.

A springy wood floor can kill the best of systems. I oughta know. My house is pushing 125 yrs old. The weakest link in my system is the floor.

I've got this fantasy of pouring concrete pillars anchored in the basement floor that protrude through the listening room floor above for the speakers and audio rack.

My wife has a fantasy . Strangely enough it involves concrete too ... If I disappear look for a fresh pour in the basement.

Well Al, I guess I'd better requisition a ground penetrating doppler radar. Can you send me your bio data in case I find Jimmy Hoffa instead?

On the suject of concrete, you are absolutly right. I even go a step further. Our lot was blasted from the side of a granite rock face which is part of the Cambrian shield. We don't have what you would call a basement. The footings were jack hammered and metal threaded pillons were drilled in the rock. The very first layer of engineered wood for the foundation rests in a sandwich of heavy thick rubber like material and anchored to the pillons Short of a 9.8 earthquake, we aint'n going nowhere!

Bio data? Ain't nobody gettin' my bio data. The last guy that asked me for my SIN number is still walking funny and you think I'm giving you a dna sample?

Now if that Catherine chickee from CSI were to snuggle up to me with a swab it might be a different story... :)

It's still a good idea. In our last house, my sound room had a very springy floor. Underneath, was an unfinished part of the basement mainly used for storage.

Once I had the equipment rack and speakers in their permanent position, I went to the hardware store and purchased three small 2 ton jacks and three 6X6 capped with small round concrete stepping stones that could fit between the joists and positioned them under the floor directly underneat the equipment. Then I purchased three cement tiles, painted them glossy black and slid them under the speakers and rack.

Not perfect but it worked.

Hmmmmm. Simple, elegant, inexpensive and easy to implement. No wonder I didn't think of it. :)

I just might give it a try.

Very nice looking system. I built a Newform R645 kit many moons ago -- and to this day I'm still sorry we sold them when we moved. If you ever feel a bit adventurous some of the 3rd party crossovers & enclosure dampening kits are pretty good stuff.

The ribbon only uses a single 250V MKP capacitor for a 6db slope but acoustically, the rolloff below 1Khz is much steeper. Simple and functional.

Many hobbyists keep it even with external electronic crossovers.

Ribbons can be addictive aren't they?

Very nice. I remember hearing Newform way way back at a trade show when he was just getting started, glad to see he's a survivor after all those years!

What's the big box between the speakers, a sub?

Yes the NFR S1 Sub was a complement to the Module 30 ribbon. It's a single dual magnet 8" Peerless with an in-room range of 80hz-25hz.

They used to make the powered S-10 with a 130 watts amp.

The BC84 Power line Pillow was taken out of the system and replaced by the BC6000. It now resides with the video system.
