Lenco Projects Finished
I have finally completed the two Lenco projects that I have been working on for the last year. I had a lot of fun building these Idler wheel tables and really think they turned out well. Here are a few hurried pictures as I just got them home late last night.
The first Table has the original top plate and is finished in Makore wood with a Padauk wood armboard. The Second Table has the PTP top plate and is finished in Mozambique wood with a Purpleheart armboard. They are finished in a hand rubbed oil varnish and then buffed with paste wax, the good old fashioned way.
They sound big and powerful with lots of pace and drive. The second table with the PTP top plate is much more refined and in comparison to some very good tables, my Teres and a Spacedek, it lacks for nothing and in my opinion.

Brent’s on a well deserved vacation at the moment and probably won’t be looking at anything but greens and fairways for the next two weeks. I’m the lucky bastard who got the Lenco with the PTP plate and it sounds as great as it looks.
Brent did the painstaking design work for it which included among other experiments trying countless configurations of layered materials before finding the perfect balance. I believe he also did most of the construction work with some help from his brother who owns a woodworking shop.
In combination with an RS-A1 arm and Denon 103R cartridge I think I’d be hard pressed to find a better sounding set-up for under $5k, and it looks stunning sitting next to my Blue Circle boxes fronted with walnut and purple heart faceplates.

I spent over a year on these two tables. Over eight months was just spent on trying different combinations of materials and layers of materials. There is a lot of plinth desigh ideas out there so I tried as many as possible to see what sounded right to my ears. Each plinth is considerably different so the process took a considerable amount of time and patience. Attilio, The Beta Tester, was pivotal in guiding me in the right direction and between the two of us, I think we arrived at a pair beautiful sounding turntables. His help was invaluable and always appreciated. My older brother has a small workshop with some nice tools that enabled me to get the finishing done.
I have my Lenco running full time now and have pushed my Teres aside for the time being. These idler wheels when done properly really are tremendous and I am enjoying the merits of my work.

Attillio purchased a couple of Great Plains Audio 604 drivers with the hopes that I would build a 602 style cabinet for them, but work obligations have not allowed me any time to get them done. I came across a piece of japanese literature on the web Friday that had plans for a different design for these drivers that was super easy to build. So Monday night a quick stop at Rona and a few hours in the Garage and i had music playing from these new drivers. They are still being worked in, but so far what a surprise they have been.
